Sundargarh district primarily consists of deep forest, hills, mines, tribal and other hard to reach areas spanning across 300 kms. The terrain poses a challenge to the basic and essential service delivery mechanism. The District Administration of Sundargarh has come up with a unique initiative, called Mobile Medical Unit, which aims at providing last mile healthcare service and doorstep medicine and health checkup facilities to the cross section of the society.
A fleet of 25 mobile medical vehicles whose visit is scheduled by the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), function six days a week. The programme which was launched on 1st April 2017 covers the entire district and reaches out to the tribal and mining affected communities of the area. Each vehicle is equipped with a doctor, paramedical and support staff, pathological test equipment, medicines etc.
The medical team also refers cases, where required, to the higher medical facilities for further treatment of the patients.
This initiative is fully funded by the District Mineral Foundation (DMF), Sundargarh.
Speaking on the impact of the initiative Dr. Saroj Kumar Mishra, CDMO, Sundargarh says, “We appreciate the idea of the District Administration which has proved very successful for the masses. We are also thankful to DMF Sundargarh for the financial grant to run this mega programme. The district collector has always given his support to make this public service activity meaningful.”
